The photographs of the series La Difficulté d’une Perspective show different locations from the film Une femme est une femme by Jean-Luc Godard (1961), with Anna Karina playing the female lead (Angéla). The film tells the story of a young woman who earns her living as a stripper, and who wants a child at all costs. Further roles are cast with Jean-Claude Brialy, Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jeanne Moreau in a cameo appearance. Each location was shot from two different perspectives: the first one showing a repetition of the original Godardian frame (the “objective shot”); the second one shows Anna Karina’s subjective perspective in the contemporary environment of the quarter around the Porte Saint-Denis in the 10th arrondissement in Paris. The photographs’ order corresponds to the locations chronology within the filmic narrative, and therefore with the movements and dérives of the characters in the Parisian cityscape.
